Dr Mihir Kelshiker will give a talk on the AI stethoscope
Artificial intelligence promises to transform diagnosis of heart disease
Join us to learn about the artificial intelligence (AI) tool that is being deployed to 100 primary care practices in NW London to assist clinicians in their evaluation of heart failure.
GP clinics in London and Wales will receive an AI-powered tool as part of a trial to help improve the diagnosis of a deadly heart condition.
Co-investigators Dr Patrik Bächtiger and Dr Mihir Kelshiker, from the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial, added: “TRICORDER is a system-wide implementation of Eko’s clinically effective AI technology. Implementing this tool in primary care could save the health payer system £2,400 per patient, eliminating the potential need for an emergency room visit.”

Dr. Aygul Dagbasi who is a Registered Dietitian at Imperial
How salt, sugar, fats affect the cardiovascular system/risks.
Dr Aygul Dagbasi is a Post-Doctoral researcher working under the supervision of Professor Gary Frost. She started her career as a dietitian at Rotherham NHS Trust in 2015. Her career took a turn towards research when she received Dean's Master Scholarship from Imperial College to do a MRes in Clinical Research as part of the human nutrition pathway. She then received President's PhD Scholarship to complete her PhD under the supervision of Professor Gary Frost and Professor Kevin Murphy at Imperial College.
Her research is focused on understanding the link between food structures, gut microbiota, ileal metabolism and appetite regulation. She received the BNF Pump Priming Award in 2022 to support her research in this area. Dr Dagbasi is also the organiser and a member of an UKRI funded ageing network called Ageing and Nutrient Sensing Network.

- Dementia, Brain Injury and Mental Health – Improving understanding, care & treatment of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain Injury, cognitive impairment, mental health and psychiatric disorders (e.g. depression, anxiety, personality disorders, addiction)
- Cancer – e.g. Bladder, Breast, Colorectal, Kidney, Lung, Pancreatic, Prostate, Skin, Ovarian or Blood Cancer or Lymphoma or Leukaemia
- Heart Conditions - e.g. angina, heart attack, coronary heart disease, genetic or inherited heart issues, myocarditis (inflammation of the heart) or abnormal heart rhythm
- Gut Health - Conditions that affect the stomach and surrounding organs, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Syndrome (IBS), Colitis, Crohn’s disease, gastritis or food allergies (e.g. lactose intolerance)
- Immune System Diseases - Conditions which impact the way your immune system works including: systemic lupus erythematosus, thrombocytopenia and thrombosis, vasculitis, kidney transplantation and chronic kidney disease
- Multiple Long-Term Conditions – Research into improving care and management of multiple long-term or chronic conditions (e.g. diabetes AND heart disease) occurring at the same time (or caring for someone who does)
- Infections - viral or bacterial infections including salmonella, respiratory viruses (influenza, COVID-19, rhinovirus) HIV, healthcare associated infections, hepatitis C, sepsis and other infectious diseases
- Digital Health – Developing digital apps (e.g. on your phone) to manage or monitor your (your family/friends) health, engaging with your patient electronic record or undertaking remote consultations.
- Lung Health - Improving understanding, diagnosis & treatment of lung diseases such as wheeze, asthma, allergies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis & pulmonary fibrosis
- Social, Genetic & Environmental Determinants of Health - Exploring the role of social (e.g. relationships, family structure), genetic (your DNA and genes) and environmental (e.g. housing, pollution) factors on health
- Metabolic Medicine - Preventing and treating obesity, type-2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hormonal conditions and their complications, such as infertility
- Biomedical Engineering - Improving the quality, safety & patient outcomes of heart surgery, cancer surgery, surgery after injury or surgery for hip, knee or other joint replacements, through the use of new surgical technology & procedures.
